Topaz Generative Upscaling Coming to Adobe Lightroom

Published: February 13, 2026
As revealed by Adobe evangelist Terry Lee White in a new video, Adobe are bringing generative upscaling to Adobe Lightroom. Yes, rather than having to open an image in Photoshop or some other generative upscale tool such as Gigapixel, you can now do it all without leaving Lightroom.

Surprisingly there is zero mention of Firefly in the upscale dialog box, simply reference to Topaz Gigapixel listed as a ‘Partner model’. Like the same feature in Photoshop, you are unfortunately limited to either 2x or 4x upscale. And since this does appear to be a straight port from Photoshop I’m going to suggest that there will be a cap on image size too, so if you have an image that’s already moderately sized, the tool will refuse to upscale it.

Underneath the main option there’s a handy ‘Credit balance’ toggle where you can see how many credits you’ve got in the Bank of Adobe. If you’re on the Photography bundle you will eat through the measly amount of credits included in your subscription pretty quickly.

The upscale results from this tool aren’t terrible, but there are definitely better options out there, both in terms of quality and cost. I am grandfathered in on the old Topaz Gigapixel plan so get a fully featured upscale tool for far less than Adobe are charging, but more recently I’ve been using ETI Image Generator and the Crystal upscaler with credits at Replicate for far superior results.

You can see the new feature in action in Terry Lee White’s video starting at the 6:54 mark:

For the last 16 years I’ve been photographing, blogging (and more recently vlogging) about everything I find, see and enjoy here in South Coast, New South Wales. This is my blogging site focused on my hobby (and part-time job) of photography. Please enjoy my little writing and my photography and I’d love to hear your feedback.
