WTF Is GitHub? A Mac User’s Guide to the The Planet’s Biggest Home for Free Software

Never heard of GitHub, or been told to "just grab it off GitHub" by someone who then vanished? It's the biggest home for free and open source software on the planet, it's owned by Microsoft, and it was built by coders for coders. This video explains what it is, where Git comes in, and how to find your way around a project page without a computer science degree.

GOT THE "APPLE COULD NOT VERIFY" WARNING?
It doesn't mean the app is dodgy, just that the developer hasn't paid for Apple's notarisation. If you trust the source:

Try to open the app and let the warning appear, then click Done (not Move to Trash).
Open 'System Settings' then 'Privacy & Security'.
Scroll down to 'Security', click 'Open Anyway', enter your login password and click OK.

Open the app again and click Open on the final prompt.

The Open Anyway button is only available for about an hour after you try to open the app, so do it straight away. Only override the warning for apps you've vetted.
