Taking advantage of the warm shoulder months and the greatly reduced number of tourists in the region at this time of year, Catherine and I headed down the coast to Bermagui for a weekend away. We decided to spend Saturday afternoon on a boat cruise with Narooma Charters out to Montague Island. The cruise cost $90 each and is the only way of visiting the island as it is one big nature reserve and uninvited visitors are banned. The island is home to some of the rarest birds on the planet (the endangered Storm Petrel) and also a large colony of Australian and New Zealand (Short Nosed) seals. The history of the island, from both the indigenous and the European perspective is extremely interesting and I can highly recommend a visit to this amazing location.

Narooma is a coastal town on the far south coast of NSW. The Narooma is said to be derived from the Aboriginal word meaning ‘clear blue waters’. It has some amazing beaches and the amazing Wagonga Inlet behind town which is perfect for kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding.
