t’s been a long time coming, but finally – after decades of nothing but Instagram – there’s suddenly a glut of apps built and released specifically for photography and for photographers. It’s early days of course, but the signs are that there’s a genuine hunger among photographers to share their work away from the Meta ecosystem where the emphasis is on ‘content’ and not ‘creativity’.
After years in Instagram’s shadow, photographers finally have the chance to find better light and more appropriate photo-sharing platforms. I’m going to give you the low-down on these apps and perhaps try and work out which of them stands the best chance of breaking through from a small-time niche and on, into mass appeal.
