Seven Mile Beach widens quite considerably as it stretches towards Gerroa, which makes for wide sections of sand at low tide in which to catch reflections. When there’s lots of colour in the sky at sunset, the whole beach reflects the sky to the horizon and during weekends and holidays the wide sands are busy with families, fishermen, surfers and folks out enjoying the pristine beach environment.
On the evening I took this photo, in July 2014, there was hardly anyone on the beach enjoying this amazing sunset. I wanted something else in my photos, however, to add some foreground interest and, as luck would have it, these two young ladies were walking back up the beach having just enjoyed an evening surfing. I asked them if they’d stand in my shot for me and they agreed and asked me what I wanted them to do. I said, “Just look out to sea meaningfully,” and they did.
