Light Fantastic – Bioluminescent Plankton at Barfleur Beach

I’ve been lucky enough to witness bioluminescent blooms on four occasions now. However the best I ever saw was also the first. It arrived in mid August 2013 and I was tipped off by some kind local photographers who live locally. At the time it wasn’t a very well known phenomenon and hadn’t been photographed very often in Australia. That has all changed now, with Facebook groups devoted to bioluminescent sightings and, on all the occasions when I’ve photographed it since, the beach has been a lot busier than it was on this evening. The plankton were truly amazing to witness on this evening and the brightest that I have ever seen them. It’s a truly amazing sight.

For the last 16 years I’ve been photographing, blogging (and more recently vlogging) about everything I find, see and enjoy here in South Coast, New South Wales. This is my blogging site focused on my hobby (and part-time job) of photography. Please enjoy my little writing and my photography and I’d love to hear your feedback.
