I knew from the cloud forecast that it was likely to be a great sunrise, so I set the alarm for 5:30am and drove down to Hyams Beach in Jervis Bay. There's always the anticipation of what's to come when you're driving to a sunrise shoot and it wasn't until I was driving down the hill into Hyams Beach Village that I could see that it was indeed going to be a special sunrise.
The colour was deep burnished reds early and I spent some time photographing the little creek before walking down the beach to the rocks at the northern end. The sky stayed vibrant for the duration and the sunrise ended with deep oranges.
Hyams Beach is the busiest beach in the Shoalhaven, but I had the entire beach to myself for the duration. So it goes to show that if you visit early and in the winter, it's still possible to enjoy a bit of solitude on this extremely popular location.
