The sky was looking really interesting all day today and, when I checked the forecast for sunset it looked like perfect conditions for a back-lit sky. So I headed out nice and early and was at the beach an hour before sunset. As I sat in the car waiting for some colour a line of low clouds marched in and I nearly packed up and went home. However I could see a gap in the distance and, when I saw a flash of gold way to the south I figured I’d go down onto the beach and see what unfolded. As it happened the real colour only started right on sunset but then it carried on for a good 35 minutes afterwards producing some awesome light.
Seven Mile Beach at Gerroa is my ‘go to’ beach as it’s a short drive from my house and offers a flexible number of landscapes in one small area. You can shoot on the beach, on the reserve by the boat ramp, over the rocks behind Crooked River or round the corner at Black Head.
