I
‘ve been using TopazLabs products for many years now, but it was the trio of AI products (launched in 2019) that won a permanent place in my post-processing workflow. Topaz unfortunately ended development on DeNoise AI and Sharpen AI when they launched Photo AI, but they decided to keep their upscaler – Gigapixel AI – as a separate app.
Last month, Topaz rolled out, Gigapixel version 8.4 and then (a few days later) version 8.4.1 to deal with some of the more annoying bugs that had been reported by users. This latest version of Gigapixel leans heavily on generative AI tools and introduces a new pre-downsampling tool.
So the question is, is Gigapixel 8.4 worth of money? Should it be a part of a photographer’s toolbox or have Topaz Labs completely screwed the last of their decent apps?
