Generative Remove Without the Adobe Subscription in RapidRAW

I’ve been following the development of RapidRAW since its very first release in the middle of 2025 and have tracked its progress over the last 15 months, as it has matured to be an increasingly capable lightweight cross-platform (completely free) RAW editor.
But if there was one area in which I never thought it would properly compete with something like Adobe Lightroom – it was the generative remove tool.
I’ve read many comments over the years from photographers on the Adobe photography bundle saying that one of the main reasons they keep paying is because of that generative remove tool. And in fact the lack of a generative remove tool in DxO Photolab is what stops many of them jumping ship to that app.
Obviously, an open-source app is never going to compete with the might of Adobe and its thousands of engineers working across all of the apps in the Creative Cloud Suite, but Timon, the developer of RapidRAW decided to give it his best shot anyway.
Instead of trying to compete directly, he decided to integrate his app with a free AI platform called Comfy-UI and to leverage the work that thousands of people have already done building open source image models and all of the plumbing around them.
