Actually Good Photography Videos You May Have Missed (December Edition)

My recommended videos from the last few weeks

The last one of these was well received, so here’s another batch of high quality photography related videos that I have found on YouTube. Just a bit of inspiration, a bit of knowledge and a bit of humour for good measure. Happy weekend, guys.

Compressing RAW files to 90% in Lightroom

Greg Benz is an extremely knowledgeable photographer with a high quality channel and if you aren’t subscribed to him already, I strongly suggest you do so. In this video who walks through the steps of converting native RAW images to DNGs for potentially massive hard drive space savings.

What Using Adobe in 2026 Feels Like

This is gold. Say no more.

Fixing Contrast in Black and White Photos

Great video by Jeff Ascough walking you through fixing contrast in black and white photographs without using the contrast slider. I’d also like to point out that he’s not really touching the gimmicky AI masks – just an old-fashioned brush for far more natural results.

Using a MIOPS Smart+ To Shoot High Speed Photos

To be honest I can only stand Kai in small doses these days, but he’s usually pretty good value when he teams up with Lok, his old sidekick from the DigitalRev days. And this is a good showcase for what this digital trigger is capable of.

Light Pollution and Milky Way Photography

I’m lucky enough to live in a place with a very low Bortle (light pollution) score (just 2.0. on the scale) which means I can shoot great astro photography without having to travel. But not everyone is as lucky, as discussed by Ian Lauer in this video about the realities of light pollution and astrophotography.

An hour a day will change your life

Here’s a message I wholeheartedly endorse brought to you by fellow Aussie – Peter Fritz. I most definitely use photography as a way of managing my mental health and that has always been the case. Check out my video ‘The Bondi Years’ for my take on the subject.
