Actually Good Photography Videos You May Have Missed

(February Edition)

Okay, where did January go? Hope you’re all easing into 2026 and have got over the holiday blues. Here’s a fresh batch of videos to entertain and delight you. Had a decent pick-up in subscribers lately, so if this is the first email you’ve got from me – welcome and enjoy.

So A.I. Makes Better Music Than You … Now What?

Yes, this is a video about making music presented by a musician … but … everything he talks about this is directly applicable to photography as well. Venus Theory gets to the core of why we create and the questions he asks, such as ‘who are you creating for’ help to deal with a world in which A.I. can now realistically fake anything.

Film Photography isn’t Better, is it?

UK-based photographer James Popsys decided to make 2026 the year he tries film photography again. Rather than opting for a cheap Pentax he went all-in on a Fuji GW690 and I have to say, I like the results he got.

Unmissable Astro Events in 2026

Looks like some cool night-sky events happening this year, including a couple of solar eclipses, two lunar eclipses and a couple of super moons.

79º North – Under Arctic Sails

Make yourself a coffee and put 30 minutes aside to watch (perhaps on the telly) this beautifully filmed photographic expedition inside the acrtic circle on a beautiful schooner. Amazing cinematography and photographs combined with excellent story-telling.

How to Create a Photogenic Bird Feeding Station

Great project here if you fancy taking your bird photography up a notch or two – it’s not actually about building the feeding station, but how to best utilise it. Some excellent guidance on placement of the station and your hide to maximise foreground/background separation.

The Only Camera Settings That Matter

An enjoyable talk from Dave Herring about how complicated cameras complicate photography and why it’s okay to use the auto-modes. Also a great tip in there about using black and white mode for better colour outcomes!

From Preston Bus Station to Kate Moss

Fashion photography is definitely not my thing, but I found this video entertaining, informative and engrossing. Perhaps it’s because Jamie Hawkesworth basically ended up a fashion photographer working for Vogue by accident. I’ve had similar chains of events in my life.

The Real Secret to Clearer, Sharper Photographs

Sean Tucker’s a bit of a legend on YouTube and I always appreciate his thoughtful videos. Much of his content is philosophical in nature, but this is a superb and expertly written explanation of sharpness and how it pertains to photography.
