Photographers Guide to Cross-Posting to the New Social Media Platforms

L
ately there has been a shift in the social media landscape. User numbers suggest it’s not a revolution (yet) but it is undeniably a new movement.
There are many use-cases for social media and everyone’s different, but photographers are, broadly speaking, after similar outcomes. If they’re professional then it’s probably a promotional tool to generate work leads, and if they’re hobbyist then it’s all about being a showcase for things we’re proud of. There’s also community element of course, which is much less important if you’re autistic like me!
The problem is that, as new platforms emerge to compensate for the shortcomings in the billionaire-owned global manipulation and attention machines (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc), photographers are left scrambling to figure out where to invest their time. What I propose is that, instead of trying to second-guess which platforms are destined to thrive and which are destined to be forgotten, you hedge your bets.
Careful cross-posting is the name of the game and if you use the right tools then it doesn’t have to be any more time-consuming than posting to individual platforms. Post once, show up everywhere.
