In-depth look at the popular denoising/demosaicing pre-processor


A
s digital photography has evolved, matured and got more technical, so the software we use to process our digital photographs has evolved too. Over the last decade the biggest shift in the post-processing workflow has been away from all-in-one solutions – and into specialised niche tools that do one specific job better than the kitchen-sink apps.

Pre-processing exemplifies this evolution – rather than relying on your photo editor for demosaicing, lens correction, and denoising, you integrate these into a separate task at the beginning of your workflow, creating the first link in the chain to a finished photo.

DxO PureRAW is at the forefront of this new refined workflow, known as pre-processing, applying forensic levels of lens correction with industry leading demosaicing, light and shadow recovery and denoising.

Now PureRAW 5 is here. With claims of faster processing, enhanced noise reduction, and improved optical corrections, this update promises to push raw conversion technology to new heights. But does it deliver on these ambitious promises, or is it just another incremental update with a new version number? It was definitely not what I was expecting…
