hen a company reaches out to me to ask if I’d like to review their products, I agree to it based on a couple of possible outcomes. Firstly I think the product is going to be good and that people who enjoy my take on photography will get value from an assessment of its capabilities. Secondly, I think the product is just a load of hype and marketing bullshit and that the people who enjoy my take on photography could benefit from hearing some common-sense opinions on the subject.
Sidenote: as much as I enjoy writing the negative reviews, I never agree to review products because I think before-hand that they’re going to be shit. They often are a load of shit, but I only discover that during testing.
Now in that second category, I am sometimes surprised. It doesn’t happen often if I’m being honest with you, but occasionally it does. And while it wasn’t some hallelujah, opening-of-the-heavens, religious experience – this light that you rest on top of your monitor, was definitely in the second category.
