Some more great content I’ve discovered on YouTube – hopefully a nice blend of different subjects and something to ease you into the weekend.
Flying a $10,000 FPV Drone Over the Matterhorn
Not much margin for error when you’re piloting a flying cinema-grade camera over the famous Matterhorn in Switzerland – I shit myself when I fly my old Mavic 2 Pro over the ocean. Nice insight into the process here and some stunning footage.
How to Photograph Bird in Flight on a Dull Day
Nice idea for a photo project from Paul Miguel, a wildlife photographer based in the UK. This is a technique I’ve used myself on many occasions for the simple reason that I don’t own a fast telephoto lens and so I often have to make compromises.
Going Underground with Jamel Shabazz
The thing I love about street photography is that there are so many different approaches to it. Jamel Shabazz is a legendary New York based photographer who carries a book of work with him to show people he photographs, has a business card on him at all times and offers his subjects a photo in return for posing. Just goes to show you don’t have to do it like Bruce Gilden.
Is Ai about to Hollow out Photography and Destroy 200 Years of Human Culture?
Must admit that I was new to Karl Taylor’s channel before watching this video (despite his > 600k subscribers!) but in this video he reflects sentiments I’ve also expressed in my writing here and on YouTube. Nicely reasoned arguments and interesting getting the perspective of a professional studio photographer.
Scott Kelby’s Top AI Secrets for Lightroom & Photoshop | Bild Expo 2025
B&H just shared this presentation by Scott Kelby at the Bild Expo last year. Some stuff I don’t personally ever do (sky replacements for instance), but some good tips in here. Also pretty funny watching him move things along swiftly when Photoshop creates mutant feet when using generative expand.
Lightroom Trick Instantly Makes Photos Look Sharper
Little bit disingenuous to call it a ‘tip’, since it’s actually an extensive sharpening workflow, but this is a solid video for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Mark goes to great efforts to avoid double-dipping on edits (something I mentioned in my recent article/video about editing mistakes) and secondly there’s good use of traditional masks here and not just the AI ones.
What is Fine Art Photography
Fair warning, this is a 40 minute video, but I think it’s worth investing your time in if (as I was in the past) you are confused about what ‘Fine Art’ photography actually is. Martin Osner raises many interesting points and a crucial reference to artistic intent. Grab a coffee and enjoy a deep dive into what turns into a surprisingly philosophical debate.
Stop Buying Expensive Camera Bags. Do This Instead!
This little project was created with videographers in mind, but it’s definitely relevant to photographers as well. For many years I’ve used a large camera backpack as my main equipment storage area, keeping it near-permanently in the car boot and then when I go out for a shoot I transfer what I need into my sling bag on location. However a bag like this, setup like this would make much more sense and provide far more room for my myriad accessories, filters, tripods, cables, straps, lenses and gizmos.
The Truth About Visiting Iceland in 2026
Iceland is one of those places that’s on the bucket list for many photographers, but it looks like it has sucumbed to the same over tourism that has damaged so many of the world’s most spectacular locations. The irony, of course, is that photographers are often both the symptom and the cause. This is a video by a local Icelander talking about how much the place has changed in the last decade.
