Lap: This Cross Platform Open Source Asset Manager is So Nearly Perfect

One of the questions I am most commonly asked by you guys is which asset manager I recommend. You’ve got a photo editor you’re happy with (perhaps PhotoLab or Nitro) and now you want to pair it with a decent app to manage the photos you edit in that app.
And it’s one of those thorny questions that is really tough to answer because the end decision rests on what platform you’re on (Mac, Linux or Windows), how much money you want to spend, whether or not you’re against subscriptions, what sort of features you’re looking for, whether it needs AI tools and so on. Previously I’d have suggested any one of Adobe Bridge, digiKam, Peakto, PixlPath, ACDSee, Photo Mechanic, Excire or iMatch depending upon the person in question.
But every so often something turns up that makes the recommendation question easier.
Lap is a free, open source, cross platform asset manager with sensible AI, a solid feature-set and a well-honed design that belies its young age and which, as far as I can see, suffers from just one potentially deal-breaking flaw.
The rest of this one’s for paid subscribers.
