Hole in the Wall
Goooooood morning Vietnam, sorry, I man Facebook. How are we all? We’re well into autumn here in south coast NSW and the deciduous trees are wearing their autumn finery. I haven’t been out leaf-peeping yet because I never seem to have much luck with that – I usually end up driving around the southern highlands for hours and only ever find the odd lonely tree and not some majestic avenue stretching off into the horizon like a scene from Game of Thrones. Ah well, I’ve always got the beaches. And what a beach Hole in the Wall is – one of Booderee’s little secrets, hidden in plain sight. It never gets the same traffic as somewhere like nearby Green Patch or Murrays for the simple reason that it’s a 300m walk down the hill and folks don’t like lugging all their beach stuff that distance. Those of us who do make the effort are richly rewarded however and if you choose to stick around until sunset, you might see something like this. Cheers all, enjoy your Friday, the weekend is here. πŸ™‚

Murrays Beach
Monday monday, sounds good to me. Probably sounds good to a few other folks too who may or may not be taking a long weekend. Anyway, if you drive to the end of Booderee you will get to the Murrays Beach car park. And if you get out of your car and walk about 300m up the bush track you’ll come to Murrays Beach itself. And if you stand there, when the sun’s shining, it looks something like this. Cheers team πŸ™‚

Photo of the Day – Gerroa – 18/04/17

Gerroa
Autumn has definitely arrived here in south coast NSW. Definitely one of my favourite parts of the years – great temperatures, the ocean’s still warm and, thanks to the changing season, you often get great sunrises and sunsets. This is how the day ended down at Gerroa on Sunday night. I could see the cloud was conducive to a good sunset and I could also see a gap on the horizon so I got down there with plenty of time to spare. It turned out to be a real cracker and I only left the beach a whole after the sun had set because it just kept on going. There were a few tourists about enjoying the light show too and also, local Gerroa resident Guy Sebastian, who was teaching his son to fish in Crooked River. Everyone enjoying the serenity in their own ways. Cheers team, happy Tuesday one and all πŸ™‚

Greenfields Beach
So nice to have some decent weather for the long weekend and it has certainly brought everyone down to the coast! Yesterday I was with friends down in Huskisson at the boat ramp followed by a nice swim at Collingwood Beach. We ate at @5LittlePigs (I’d never been before) and I can highly recommend the place if you’re down there – awesome food – Brisket Burger rocked. Alrighty, today’s shot was taken a few days ago down at Greenfields Beach, which is one of the most family friendly beaches around with great nearby facilities including a leafy picnic area. Enjoy the rest of your easter weekend, whatever you’re up to. πŸ™‚

Gerroa
Alright you talkative lot! Jeez, it’s gone quiet around here! Hope everyone is looking forward to the Easter weekend and a bit of time off hopefully for all concerned. There’s the promise of some decent weather here in the south coast, so I will be trying to get out and capture some cool imagery. And if you haven’t seen it already, check out this week’s Sunday to Sunday which I uploaded here yesterday. Right then, today’s shot was taken a few day’s ago with the drone about 50m above the beach at Gerroa. We were actually on our way back home from Werri Beach Fish and Chips with dinner, when the sky started getting interesting and my long-suffering family patiently waited in the car while I did my thing. Alright, that’s it for today. Remember to follow my stories on Instagram (instagram.com/sublimesouth) for lots of cool photos and videos. Peace πŸ™‚

Photo of the Day – Boat Harbour Gerringong – 04/04/17

Boat Harbour Gerringong
Forecast was mixed this morning, so I hoped for some moody conditions and, what do you know, I got them. This is how sunrise looked at 6:15 this morning at Boat Harbour in Gerringong. It was rainy and cold but the ocean is amazingly warm at the moment and so I felt like I was standing in bath water and not a rock pool. Normally see a few folks about down there but it was deserted until shortly before I left and the first of the morning joggers started appearing. Alrighty you lot, have a great Tuesday πŸ™‚

Shoalhaven Heads
Well, I did head down to the beach this morning but it was bloody freezing (by Australian standards!) and greyer than Gandalf’s knickers. Check my Instagram story feed (instagram.com/sublimesouth) if you’d like to see for yourself. So here’s a shot from a couple of weeks ago at the public wharf in Shoalhaven Heads. This is one of my many happy places and, to be honest, kind of the starting place for my most recent journey with photography, when I moved to Shoalhaven Heads 10 years ago. TFI Friday team, to the weekend, poste haste!! πŸ™‚

Comerong Island
Alright you lot. You’ve made it to the middle of another week and, if you squint into distance you can just see Friday shaking off last week’s hangover and doing some warm-up stretches. Today’s photo was taken on Comerong Island which is effectively the southern end of Seven Mile Beach. You can drive to the island on a little ferry, but with the mouth of the river closed at the moment you can also just walk south from Shoalhaven Heads, which is what I did. Cheers all – catch you tomorrow πŸ™‚

Photo of the Day – Shoalhaven Heads – 25/03/17

Shoalhaven Heads
Hot off the presses, here’s a shot from this morning’s sunrise on Seven Mile Beach. Interesting note about this shot from a technical perspective. The lens that I use for most of my shots is a very wide angle 10-22mm. About three years ago, I fell on this lens down at Camel Rock (trying to get over the rocks to Horsehead at high tide – fellow photographers will know what I mean!) and broke something inside it. It hasn’t auto-focused since (yes, pretty much every photo I’ve taken since has been manually focused) and it also comes apart quite easily. Over the years I have discovered I can kind of emulate a lens called a tilt-shift to create some cool effects that heavily blur portions of the image far beyond the aperture it is ordinarily capable of (f4.5). And that’s what I used for this shot on the dunes, as the sun was coming up over the horizon. Nice bit of swell down at the beach this morning and a not completely shit weather forecast for today. Alright team, keep it real and I’ll catch you all tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Photo of the Day – Sailors Beach in Hyams Beach – 23/03/17

Sailors Beach
The unsettled weather just keeps on trucking here in South Coast NSW. The rain has backed off slightly but considering we were told it would be a hotter and drier autumn than usual, I’m guessing the Bureau of Meteorology will be checking its medium term modelling software – lol. However, the skies are at least a bit more broken this week, which has given the opportunity for some good sunrises and sunsets. Yesterday I had an inkling that the cloud would be perfect for a colourful sunrise so I headed down to one of my favourite spots – Sailors Beach in Hyams Beach down on Jervis Bay. There were a couple of other photographers on the beach (you can see them in the surf on the right of the photo there) who were photographing the sunrise from the water, but other than that it was pretty quiet. I flew the drone and shot a cool timelapse and got some great shots with the DSLR. This was my favourite from the morning with the just-risen sun lighting up the little creek at the northern end of the beach. Have a great Thursday guys πŸ™‚

Photo of the Day – Gerroa – 22/03/17

Gerroa
Well blimey, what do you know, strike a light, blow me down with a feather, lawks a lawdy, heavens above – we finally got a sunset last night. Now the irony of this (given how much I have been complaining about the last 30 days of grey shite) is that I’d have missed the best of it. I had my nose buried in my computer screen and was oblivious to the clouds and the gap on the horizon. Fortunately Ryan Twemlow (son of fellow south coast photographer Greg) did spot it and Greg was kind enough to message me and caused me to rotate my head 90ΒΊ to the left and look out of the window, and before the ‘ping’ noise of that text had died away, I was in my car and en route to Gerroa. So, it turned out to be a classic Gerroa sunset, enjoyed by a few lucky souls down on the beach. Very energising it was too and accompanied by a vibrant rainbow to the east. This was my favourite shot from the evening – awesome colours, great reflections and exactly the sort of scene I love photographing. Have a great Wednesday team and if you want to see what I got up to for sunrise today, be sure to check out my Instagram story feed at http://instagram.com/sublimesouth πŸ™‚

Not going to comment on the weather. Nope. Not going there. Don’t mind me building this Ark here. Apologies for the mess. Here’s a shot from Hyams Beach taken with the drone a couple of months ago. You can see Sailors Beach here and in the distance HMAS Cresswell and over in the distance where the sun is just rising behind the clouds is the western edge of Booderee National Park. Such an awesome spot πŸ™‚

Narooma
So many amazing locations in south coast NSW and I always love pointing the car south and exploring them. This is Narooma as seen from above Wagonga Head with the hills of Bodalla in the background. Awesome place to stay and to explore the Eurobodalla Shire region. We always try and eat at the Quarterdeck cafe on Wagonga Inlet when we’re in town – great eats right on the water. Alright team, have a chilled Saturday and may the odds be ever in your favour πŸ™‚

Photo of the Day – Honeymoon Bay – 17/03/17

Honeymoon Bay
How about a blast of sunshine on a grey and rainy day? This is the famous Honeymoon Bay in Jervis Bay as seen from a birds eye (perhaps a wedge-tailed sea eagle?) view. If it looks an idyllic spot, then you’d be right. Such a lovely spot does get very busy during the summer, but time your visit right and you can have the place to yourself – at least for a little while. If you’re into snorkelling it’s an awesome spot to float around in, but equally nice for just relaxing and with trees right down to the water’s edge, there’s always some shade to be found. Alrighty team, have a great Thursday and as you slide down the banisters of life may the splinters never point the wrong way.

Photo of the Day – Black Head Reserve – 14/03/17

Black Head Reserve
Alright folks. The weather this weekend was a great improvement on the previous three weeks, but it’s all thunder, lightning and rain again today! Here’s a shot I took down at Black Head Reserve in Gerroa at the weekend as the sun disappeared behind the escarpment. If you’re familiar with the area, that’s actually Mount Cambewarra the sun’s going down behind, where you can visit the lookout and have an awesome meal at the cafe there. Anyway – please with how this one came out – Black Head is such a photogenic spot. Happy Tuesday one and all πŸ™‚

Photo of the Day – Murrays Beach – 12/03/17

Murrays Beach
Hello, hello, hello and a very happy Sunday to you all. This morning I headed down to Murrays Beach in Jervis Bay. This beach remains my favourite and I love visiting it at this time of the year when it’s nice and quiet. I once met a lady on this beach sifting through the sand near some rocks with a fork – turned out she’d lost her wedding ring – I suggested speaking to the local cops to find someone with a metal detector. Not sure if she ever got the ring back or not, hope she did. Anyway, there wasn’t much in the way of high-level cloud to spice up the sunrise this morning, but there was a nice little bank on the horizon which got lit up as the sun emerged behind Governor’s Head. Oh and hello to the Freunds, who I had a lovely chat with down on the beach – hope you get out on the water soon! Righty then, that’ll do us. Till next time, team πŸ™‚

Black Head Reserve
Alrighty then team. How are we all this fine Thursday? The weather here continues to be turbulent and very cloudy. In search of a little bit of colour, I headed to Black Head Reserve in Gerroa and pointed the camera south-west towards the sunset. It was very windy and wet, but it was nice to get out and blow a few of the cobwebs away. πŸ™‚

Nellies Glen
With so much rain having fallen over the last two weeks there was only one logical place to head when it finally stopped – the Southern Highlands and waterfall country. I headed up to Carrington Falls, but called in at adjoining Nellies Glen first. These guys were from the UK and exploring Australia for a year. Nice place to sit and enjoy the moment. πŸ™‚
