Broughton Creek – 25/06/17

Broughton Creek
We had a sneaky little sunrise at the end of the week and, not wanting to stray too far from my local coffee shop, I headed to nearby Broughton Creek. The morning mist added a peaceful atmosphere to the scene as the rising sun backlit the clouds. And in other news, a reminder that my winter sale is now on at (http://shop.andyhutchinson.com.au) with 10% off on all orders over $50 with the coupon code ‘winteriscoming’. And if you didn’t see yesterday’s post, my new Armchair Adventure is now up on YouTube and can be found here – https://youtu.be/ZCqFd8aQ7QA . Thanks all πŸ™‚

Morton National Park – 23/06/17

Morton National Park
Ahoi ahoi team. Looky here, it’s Friday already! Yesterday I headed up to the Southern Highlands to film my latest episode of the Armchair Adventurer. My favourite shot of the day was taken on the drive out of the Morton National Park, looking down the bush track as the sun lit up the road. Cheers all πŸ™‚

Gosangs Tunnel – 21/06/17

Gosangs Tunnel
Gosangs Tunnel is an elevated sea cave that runs straight through the middle of the cliffs on the Beecroft Peninsula near Currarong. You need to get down on your hands and knees to get through to the other side, but it’s well worth a little bit of discomfort for the amazing landscape on the other side. This is how it looks when you get out the other side of the cave. I can’t promise you’ll get a photogenic shower offshore but it’s a great place to spot whales as the continental shelf drops away fairly steeply here. If you’d like to visit this location for yourself, I did an Armchair Adventure guide which you can find here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-9iZBlu6Lw . Cheers team πŸ™‚

Narrawallee Beach – 20/06/17

Narrwallee Beach
The shortest day of the year is nearly upon us and from tomorrow the days will start getting longer again as we cruise through winter and towards the spring. Here’s a shot that exudes Australian summer right through the screen. This is Narrawallee Beach, which you can find just to the north of Mollymook Beach and around the corner from Bannisters Head. Awesome spot, awesome beach, awesome summer to come!

Greenfield Beach – 15/06/17

Greenfields Beach
Happy Thursday team. I hope your week is proceeding as per acceptable parameters. This morning I headed down to Jervis Bay to record the new episode of the Armchair Adventurer. The weather was stunning and once the sun came up and it warmed up, you wouldn’t know it was mid-winter. I had pretty much the whole place to myself too and got some cool shots south of Vincentia. This is Greenfields Beach from the drone looking, it must be said, very lovely. Cheers all πŸ™‚

Glasshouse Rocks South – 14/06/17

Glasshouse Rocks South
Aha! We have made it to Wednesday with our sanity intact. Just. There are 10,650 beaches in Australia and, at a guess, I’d say I had visited about 500 of them. I will of course work on the rest of the list! This particular stretch of sand is Glasshouse Rocks South in Narooma. You can only get to this beach on foot as the land above is part of a private $7.5m estate owned by the pub baron Justin Hemmes. Mr Hemmes clearly has very good taste – can you imagine having this view every morning at your breakfast bar? If you’re reading this Justin (as if!) I’m always available for house-sitting πŸ™‚

Shoalhaven Heads – 13/06/17

Shoalhaven Heads
Another long weekend has been and gone. Hello to any of you who might have travelled down to the Shoalhaven for the Winter Wine Festival. I was doing some social media work for @Silos.Estate and it certainly seemed busy to me! Also there was a huge queue at the Berry Donut van, but then there often is. Anyway, here’s today’s shot, taken a few weeks ago on Shoalhaven Heads Beach. Cheers all πŸ™‚

Mermaids Inlet – 07/06/17

Mermaids Inlet
Jervis Bay is an amazing place and I love discovering the history of the area, both human and geological. For instance, this is Mermaids Inlet on the northern Beecroft side of the bay. Those massive rocks that you can see lying on their edges are the size of a bus and they were put there not through the action of erosion, but because of massive tsunamis that hit this coastline as recently as 12,000 years ago. The rocks didn’t fall from the cliffs but were washed out, rotated and then dropped again as the waters of the massive waves abated. Picture for a moment how big a wave would have to be to move a 6m boulder up a 32m high cliff face! Much of Jervis Bay appears to owe its appearance to these tsunamis. The local aboriginal community, who were living here before the end of the last ice age and the rising waters that created the bay itself were undoubtedly present for some of these catastrophic events which is an incredible thing to consider. You’ll see a lot more of this bit of coastline in my next Armchair Adventure which I’m currently editing and will upload this week. πŸ™‚

Gosangs Tunnel – 05/06/17

Gosangs Tunnel
Hey gang. Hopefully you had an enjoyable weekend – happy Monday to you all. On Sunday I got up early and headed down to Currarong to shoot the latest episode of the Armchair Adventurer. I walked to the northern end of the Beecroft Peninsula and to Gosangs Tunnel and the Mermaid Inlet. This is how the view looks from 50m up looking south over the peninsula. If you look closely you will also see me! Pretty dramatic scenery, no? πŸ™‚

Broughton Creek – 02/06/17

Broughton Creek
The sun doesn’t often line up with this section of Broughton Creek, so it’s a fairly tricky spot to get a decent sunset shot on. Sometimes the cloud is helpful though and there’s no wind to affect the reflections πŸ™‚

Shoalhaven River – 01/06/17

Shoalhaven Heads
Well blimey, it’s Thursday already. How did that happen? Anyone else sit down on a Monday morning and then glance up at the clock in the menubar a short time later and find it’s the end of the week? Anyway, the temperatures have dropped off a fair bit here in south coast NSW, although I can’t help thinking that calling it winter is stretching it a bit. Sure it gets a bit chilly at night, but the daytime temperatures are bank holiday Speedos-and-a-grin beach weather where I come from – lol. Right, today’s shot was taken a couple of weeks ago in Shoalhaven Heads, looking west out over the oyster fetches at sunset. This photo like all my other daily shots can be purchased at very reasonable prices in my online store (shop.andyhutchinson.com.au) in traditional and canvas formats. So if you want a bit of south coast serenity in your home, you know what to do. Also, if you haven’t had a squizz already, please check out my new YouTube channel called The Armchair Adventurer (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAXQpcHlYOvhhF4j8RK7s1A) and subscribe to be notified when I upload a new vlog. Planning something pretty cool for the next one, so please stay tuned πŸ™‚

Drawing Room Rocks – 30/05/17

Drawing Room Rocks - Before Sunrise
Well looky here, it’s Tuesday. I have been busy editing the next episode of The Armchair Adventurer (episode 1 is here in case you missed it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RxNW0_vTkJU) and this week I decided to explore the amazing Drawing Room Rocks. I first climbed up to this amazing lookout on my first trip to Australia, 12 years ago. At the time it wasn’t a well known track and we only found out about it at all thanks to a tip-off from a local. Catherine and I got completely lost a couple of times on the way up and down and had to backtrack on ourselves to find the way. There’s no issue with that these days as the track is now well worn and it’s easy to find your way up. If you want to enjoy the peace and quiet, you’re best off going up midweek or very early/late because it does (unsurprisingly) attract a fair number of visitors. I took this particular photo six years ago when we walked up before sunrise and were treated to the awesome sight of the mist rolling down Woodhill Mountain. Alright folks, onwards and upwards. πŸ™‚

Shoalhaven Heads – 29/05/17

Shoalhaven Heads
Hey gang, happy Monday to you all. I was out and about at the weekend shooting the next episode of the Armchair Adventurer which I will upload later this week, so watch this space! On the Sunday evening the sky was looking really moody so I stuck a fresh battery in the camera and drove to the Shoalhaven Heads. The light looked better to the east than the west so I went to the beach instead of the river and caught the dying light illuminating rain clouds out over the Pacific. Cheers team, till next time πŸ™‚

Shoalhaven Heads
Well looky here, it’s Friday. The Shoalhaven estuary is pretty quiet at this time of year, so I had the place pretty much to myself a few nights ago πŸ™‚

Bombo Quarry – 24/05/17

Bombo Quarry
There’s a few ‘flagship’ locations that attract photographers from all over Australia and Bombo Quarry is definitely up there on the list. I was down there on Monday shooting some video for a new project and flew my Phantom 4 out over the ocean to get a shot of the view looking back. In the distance you can see Bombo Beach and over to the left, Kiama. Cheers team, have a great Wednesday πŸ™‚

Shoalhaven Heads – 23/05/17

Shoalhaven Heads
Ah yes, welcome to Tuesday team. Amazing autumn weather here in South Coast NSW, with warm daytime temperatures and crisp foggy mornings. Today’s shot was taken in Shoalhaven Heads the morning after a heavy rain front had moved through the region. The colour didn’t quite pop to its full extent, but the resulting sunrise was definitely ‘moody’ πŸ™‚

Scribbly Gum Walk Jervis Bay – 14/05/17

Scribbly Gum Walk
Happy Sunday everyone. One of the things I love about Jervis Bay is the way the bush meets the ocean. In this case near Greenfields Beach. I have this on my desktop as a wallpaper – feel free to try it yourself πŸ™‚

Gerringong – 11/05/17

Gerringong
The fine weather continues here in the south coast – which is awesome – though I do hear we’re due for some wet next week. I decided to take advantage of the excellent conditions and flew the drone down at Gerringong yesterday. This is the Werri Beach rock pool, looking in great condition. There was a small but solid swell rolling through and surfers enjoying the reef and the beach breaks. Alrighty time, the weekend’s just around the corner – keep it real! πŸ™‚

Gerroa – 10/05/17

Gerroa
Good Wednesday everyone. There wasn’t a lot of cloud around last night, but I decided to head out anyway and get a bit of sand between my toes. The sun didn’t so much set as turn the switch off and there wasn’t any cool cloud to get back-lit anyway. However the sea eagles did make an appearance. There was a pair of eagles out hunting late including this one who looked great silhouetted against a nearly full moon. Cheers team πŸ™‚
